Trade from TradingView alerts
A TradingView alert can place a trade for you. Point the alert at your private MirrorFill address and each time it fires, MirrorFill places the order on the leader account of your copy group. The leader's fill is then copied to every follower, exactly like a trade you placed by hand.
Before you start
- A copy group with a leader, set up on the Trade Desk under Manage rules.
- Copying running. Press Start copying yourself. An alert never starts the copier, and an alert that arrives while copying is stopped sends nothing.
- A TradingView plan that sends webhook alerts. TradingView sends them on its paid plans only, and asks you to turn on two-factor sign-in first.
Steps
- Open Settings, then the TradingView tab, and turn on Accept alerts.
- Press Copy next to Your address. Keep it private: anyone with it can place orders on your leader account.
- Open your chart in TradingView and create an alert with the condition you want.
- In the alert's Notifications settings, turn on Webhook URL and paste your address.
- Put the alert message in the Message box. Copy the example from Settings, or write your own (see below).
- Create the alert.
- Check Recent alerts in Settings the first time it fires: it shows every alert MirrorFill received and what it did.
The alert message
The message is a short piece of JSON:
{"action": "buy", "symbol": "MESZ6", "qty": 1}
| Field | What to put | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| action | buy, sell or close | close closes the leader's whole position in that contract. |
| symbol | A contract with its month, like ESZ6 | ESZ26 and ESZ2026 work too. Continuous symbols like ES1! do not. |
| qty | A whole number of contracts | Needed for buy and sell, ignored for close. Up to 10 for minis and 100 for micros. |
| group | The copy group's name | Needed only when you run more than one copy group. |
A TradingView strategy can fill in the action and the size for you. This is the example Settings shows:
{"action": "{{strategy.order.action}}", "symbol": "ESZ6", "qty": "{{strategy.order.contracts}}"}
To close everything in a contract, send {"action": "close", "symbol": "ESZ6"}.
What MirrorFill checks first
Before anything reaches your broker, MirrorFill checks that:
- copying is running and not reconnecting;
- the contract is your leader's instrument (for an ES group, send ES, not MES);
- the instrument is not on your blocked instruments list;
- the leader account is not locked by a risk limit or by hand;
- for buy and sell, the kill switch is not on (a close still works while it is).
If any check fails, nothing is sent and Recent alerts says why.
Things to know
- Market orders only. Each alert sends one market order. Some test environments reject market orders; a rejected order shows in Order history on the Trade Desk.
- Each alert is one order. A strategy that reverses from long 1 to short 1 sends "sell 2", which is right.
- Contracts roll. Update the symbol in your alert when you move to the next contract month. Create the alert on the dated contract's chart, not a continuous one.
- Trades you place by hand in TradingView's own trading panel on your leader account are already copied like any other trade. You only need alerts for automated orders.
- TradingView does not keep trying. If an alert fails, TradingView marks it in its own alert log. Recent alerts in Settings shows every alert MirrorFill received.
- Your address is a secret. If it leaks, press Make new address in Settings. The old one stops working at once, so update your alerts.
