Journal Dashboard metrics, defined
Every figure on the Journal Dashboard has one exact definition. Here they all are, in the order the page shows them.
The headline cards
- Profit Factor — gross winnings divided by gross losses. Above 1.0 means your winners outweigh your losers in dollars. When you have trades but no losing trade yet, it shows ∞ — a real answer, not an error. With no data at all it shows —, never a misleading 0.00.
- Win Rate — winning trades divided by closed trades, with the W/L count underneath.
- Day Win % — the share of your trading days that ended green, with the green and red day counts underneath. A different question from win rate: you can win most trades and still lose most days.
- Avg Win / Loss — the average winning trade next to the average losing trade, with a proportion bar showing their relative size. A 40% win rate is fine if the green side of that bar is much longer.
- Long vs Short — total P&L, split into what your long trades and your short trades contributed.
The charts
- Edge Score — a radar of three scored axes: Win %, Avg W/L, and Profit Factor, combined into one composite out of 100. It is a summary, not a verdict; the three axes tell you which lever to work on.
- Daily Cumulative PNL — your equity curve over the filtered range, day by day.
- Drawdown — how far below its own running peak the cumulative line sits each day. The deepest dip is the number your risk plan has to survive.
- Daily PNL — one bar per trading day, green or red.
Time and tag analytics
- P&L by hour (CT) — profit bucketed by the hour of entry, in Chicago time, because that is the clock the futures session runs on.
- P&L by day of week — the same idea across weekdays.
- P&L by tag — every tag you have applied, with trade count and total P&L. Empty until you tag trades — see tags, strategies and notes.
The calendar and R
- Monthly calendar — one cell per day with its P&L and trade count, a Weekly column totalling each row, and a month total with win / loss / break-even counts. Click a day to open its journal.
- R — P&L divided by the planned risk you set on the trade. A trade risking $250 that made $500 is +2.00R. R only exists where you entered a planned risk, so it measures discipline as much as outcome.
Quick answers
Why does Profit Factor show ∞?
You have closed trades and none of them lost money. Dividing by zero losses has no finite answer, so the dashboard says so honestly instead of faking a number.
Why is my Day Win % low when my win rate is high?
Win rate counts trades; Day Win % counts days. A few large losing trades can turn winning days red.
Where does R come from?
You set a planned risk in dollars on each trade's detail modal. R is simply the trade's P&L divided by that figure.
