Payment failed: what happens and how long you have

A failed charge does not cut you off mid-trade. You get a 3-day grace period while Stripe retries the card. Here is how you find out, what keeps working, and what to do.

How you find out

Three signals, all at once:

  • An e-mail with the subject "Your MirrorFill payment failed".
  • The plan card in the sidebar shows your plan name with "payment failed" next to it.
  • Settings → Subscription shows a warning: "Your last payment failed. Update your card to avoid losing access."

The 3-day grace period

While the grace period runs, everything keeps working — copying, risk limits, the journal. Stripe retries the card on its own schedule during this window, so an expired-card hiccup often resolves itself once you update the card.

One honest note: our grace window is deliberately shorter than Stripe's full retry schedule. This product can place live orders on your accounts. We would rather stop copying on an unpaid account too early than keep trading on one too long.

Fixing it

Open Settings → Subscription → Manage billing and update the payment method in the Stripe portal. When a retry succeeds, your subscription returns to normal — no reactivation step, nothing to re-enable.

If the grace period ends without a successful payment, access ends until a payment goes through. Nothing is deleted: your connections, copy rules, and journal are all still there when the card is fixed, exactly as described in plans and account limits.

If you run live positions daily, fix the card the day the e-mail arrives. Do not plan around the full 3 days — a weekend can eat most of the window.

Quick answers

Does copying stop the moment a charge fails?

No. Access continues through the 3-day grace period while Stripe retries the card.

Do I need to do anything after updating the card?

No. Once a retry succeeds, the subscription is back to normal automatically.

What happens after the grace period?

Access ends until a payment succeeds. Your configuration and journal data are kept, not deleted.
