Flatten all: the kill switch

Flatten all is the red-outlined button on the engine command strip (Overview, Trade Desk, Accounts, Copy Rules, Risk Management). One click closes every open position at market — the leader's as well as every follower's — and pauses copying until you press Resume. It is the fastest path from "something is wrong" to "everything is flat and nothing new can happen".

What one click does

The engine reads each account's actual position from the broker — not what it assumed you held — and sends a closing order for every one. The leader closes too: with the leader flat, there is nothing left for followers to echo, so Resume later re-opens nothing. You get a toast: "Closing orders sent. Copying stays paused until you press Resume."

The sweep is in-flight aware. Quantities already sent but not yet confirmed are subtracted from the next pass, so a slow fill or a double-click can never double-close an account into a position on the other side.

After the first pass, a re-sweep keeps checking every few seconds and re-sends closes for anything still open — including late fills that print just after the button was pressed.

When it cannot finish

Honesty matters most here. A close is still an order: it needs a live broker session and an open market.

  • If the flatten cannot complete, you get a sticky error toast: "Flatten failed. Check your positions with your broker." It stays on screen until you dismiss it, because someone has to act.
  • If a connection holding a position is down, the re-sweep keeps retrying its closes — but the position may still be open in the meantime, and the message says so plainly.
  • If the book is still not flat after several re-sweep passes, the engine raises a loud FLATTEN FAILED error in the alerts bell instead of going quiet. That is your cue to close the remainder directly with your broker.

Copying stays disabled through all of this. A failed flatten never silently resumes mirroring.

The disabled state

When no account holds a position, Flatten all is greyed out with the tooltip "No open positions to flatten". An enabled Flatten all button therefore means: something, somewhere, is open.

Flatten all is one click by default. If you want a confirmation dialog first, switch on Ask before Flatten all on the Risk Management page — it applies in that browser only.

Quick answers

Does Flatten all close the leader account too?

Yes. Every open position on every connected account closes — leader included. That is what makes Resume safe: a flat leader has nothing to copy.

Does copying restart on its own afterward?

No. Copying stays paused until you press Resume. There is no timer and no auto-resume.

What about a fill that lands right after I flatten?

The re-sweep catches it. The engine keeps sweeping until the actual book is flat, and it raises a loud error if it cannot get there.
