Frequently asked questions

Every question we get asked more than once, answered in plain terms. If your question needs more depth, each answer links to the full article in the help center. If it isn't answered anywhere, contact us — we read every message.

Getting started

What is MirrorFill and how does copying work?

MirrorFill is a futures trade copier. One leader account's fills mirror in real time onto the follower accounts you connect, using delta-exact net-position mirroring: after every fill, the engine computes each follower's target position and orders only the difference. See the leader/follower model.

Is this copying other people's signals?

No. MirrorFill mirrors trades between accounts you own and connect yourself — typically one leader and several prop-firm accounts. It is a tool, never a broker, fund manager, or signal provider. See leader and follower accounts.

What do I need to start, and how long does setup take?

You need login credentials for a supported platform (Rithmic, Tradovate, or Volumetrica) and at least two accounts: one to lead and one to follow. Most traders have a working setup in about ten minutes. Follow the quickstart.

Do I need a VPS or a machine running all day?

No. The copy engine runs server-side, so copying continues after you close the browser or your computer sleeps. Your device is only a dashboard. See what happens on disconnect.

How do I safely test copying before risking real size?

Run the pre-flight checklist: start the copier with one follower at 1x, place a small order far from the market, and confirm the follower mirrors it before you trade normal size. See the pre-flight checklist.

What devices and browsers work — is there a mobile app?

MirrorFill is a responsive web app that works in any modern browser, with a dedicated phone layout (drawer navigation and a bottom tab bar). There is no native iOS or Android app. See the app tour.

What will MirrorFill NOT copy?

It copies futures fills only, on a fixed registry of CME, CBOT, NYMEX, and COMEX instruments — no stocks, options, or crypto. It also never copies instruments on your block-list, never attaches its own stop or target brackets, and never re-chases quantity that was written off after an order expired. See known limitations.

Can I use the journal without connecting a broker?

Yes. Import your trades as CSV — there is a generic template, and Tradovate exports are detected automatically. Every journal feature works on imported data. See importing trades from CSV.

Brokers & connections

Which brokers and platforms are supported?

Rithmic, Tradovate, and Volumetrica (dxFeed). NinjaTrader, TradingView, MT4/MT5, and TopstepX/ProjectX are not supported. See known limitations.

Which prop firms does that cover?

MirrorFill copies at the platform level: if your firm's accounts run on Rithmic, Tradovate, or Volumetrica, they connect like any other account on that platform. Firms on TopstepX/ProjectX (such as Topstep) do not connect. The policy matrix lists common firms and their platform stacks.

How do I connect Rithmic, and what is a "system"?

On the Accounts page, add a connection with your Rithmic username and password, then pick your system — the Rithmic server environment your login belongs to, usually named after your firm — and a gateway. See Rithmic systems and gateways explained.

Why does my Rithmic login fail?

The usual causes: the wrong system selected for that login, credentials that belong to a different environment, or the login already in use in another platform session — Rithmic allows one session per login. See Rithmic systems and gateways and testing a connection.

Can I stay logged into my trading platform while copying?

Not on the same login. Rithmic and Tradovate each allow one session per login, so signing into another platform with the credentials MirrorFill is using can knock the copier's connection off — and vice versa. Use separate logins where your firm offers them. See Tradovate session conflicts.

How does Tradovate demo vs live detection work?

You never choose. MirrorFill detects whether a Tradovate login is demo or live when it tests the connection and stores the result. See connecting Tradovate.

Do I need Tradovate's paid API add-on?

No. MirrorFill connects with your normal Tradovate username and password; no API subscription or add-on purchase is required. See connecting Tradovate.

Is my broker password safe?

Credentials are encrypted at rest and write-only: the API never returns a stored password, and leaving the password field empty when you edit a connection keeps the stored one. Support will never ask for it. See account security.

What happens when I delete a connection?

Everything that depended on it is removed: its follower rules, its role as a group leader (the group itself survives, empty), and its risk settings. The copier must be stopped first — deletion is refused while it runs. See managing multiple connections.

Copying behavior

How does sizing work?

Each follower gets either a multiplier (leader net position times the multiplier, rounded half-away-from-zero) or an exact quantity (the follower always holds N contracts in the leader's direction). See sizing: multipliers and exact quantity.

How does ES to MES micro cross-sizing work?

Tick the Cross Order box on a follower and the engine maps between mini and micro while keeping the expiry: ES/MES, NQ/MNQ, RTY/M2K, YM/MYM, CL/MCL, GC/MGC. Combine it with a multiplier — 10 MES per ES, for example. See mini/micro symbol mapping.

Can a follower trade the opposite direction?

Yes. Reverse copy makes a follower take the opposite side of every leader position — leader long 2, follower short its sized equivalent. See reverse copy mode.

Can I run several leaders or groups at once?

Yes. Each copy group is one leader account, one leader instrument, and its own follower roster, running on its own engine. An account can lead only one group. See copy groups and multiple leaders.

What order type do followers use and why?

A marketable limit by default: a limit order priced two ticks through the leader's fill. It fills like a market order in normal conditions but caps slippage, and it works in environments where plain market orders are rejected. See market vs marketable-limit orders.

Do my stops and targets copy?

Followers mirror the leader's own exits: when your stop or target fills on the leader, the followers close with it, delta-exact. MirrorFill does not attach synthetic stop-loss or take-profit brackets of its own. See how exits copy.

What happens on a partial or missed fill?

Partial fills stay correct by construction — the engine only ever orders the remaining difference. If you set an order expiry and a follower order times out unfilled, the missed quantity is written off, deliberately never chased at market; the debt clears when the leader goes flat or reverses. See order expiry and write-offs.

Why does each account's fill price and P&L differ slightly?

Each follower sends its own real order into a live market, so it fills at whatever price is available when it arrives. Positions stay delta-exact; prices and per-account P&L can differ. See market vs marketable-limit orders.

What happens when a contract rolls over?

Nothing you have to configure. Copy rules are keyed to the instrument root (ES, NQ), never a contract month, so the roll needs no settings change. The app shows a roll warning banner and an "Old contract" badge on positions in the outgoing month. See contract rollover.

Why are copy rules locked while the copier runs?

Changing group structure mid-flight could misroute fills, so structural edits require a stop: stop, edit, start again. The Follow switch and pause-all still work while the copier runs. See editing rules while the copier runs.

Risk & safety

What exactly does Flatten all do?

It closes every position at market — the leader's as well as the followers' — pauses copying until you click Resume, and schedules a re-sweep to catch late fills. It is one click by default; an "ask before Flatten all" confirmation is opt-in on the Risk Management page. See the Flatten all kill switch.

Does Stop close my positions?

No. Stop halts copying — no new follower orders go out — but every open position stays exactly where it is. Flatten all is the control that closes positions. See engine controls explained.

How do daily loss limits and profit targets work?

Set a per-account daily loss limit or profit target on the Risk Management page. Each is checked against the account's live day P&L, which already includes open P&L, and fires at most once per CME trading day. No P&L data means the limit never fires — missing data is never treated as zero. See daily loss limits and profit targets.

What is the difference between Flatten & lock and Alert only?

Flatten & lock locks the account first, closes its positions, cancels its resting orders, and keeps re-sweeping until it is flat. Alert only notifies you and places no orders. See daily loss limits and profit targets.

When do risk locks reset?

At the CME session roll, 17:00 Chicago time. The previous session's P&L is discarded at the roll, so a limit cannot re-fire on stale numbers. Manual lockouts stay until you unlock them. See risk locks and the daily reset.

What happens when a LEADER account breaches its limit?

A leader breach is a per-group kill switch: that group flattens and its copying is disabled until you click Resume. Other groups keep running. See daily loss limits and profit targets.

What happens if my internet drops mid-trade?

Nothing changes — the engine runs server-side, so your browser going offline does not interrupt copying. If the engine itself loses a broker connection, it auto-reconnects with backoff, re-reads positions from the broker, resubscribes, and reconciles. See what happens on disconnect.

What happens if the copier restarts mid-position?

Positions are read back from the broker on startup, and every fill is tracked by id, so nothing is copied twice. The engine picks up where the accounts actually are. See restarting mid-position.

Prop firms & compliance

Do prop firms allow trade copiers?

Many allow copying between accounts you own, and some restrict or forbid it — policies differ by firm and change without notice. Check your firm's own rules before copying on a funded or evaluation account; no tool can promise a firm's approval. See do prop firms allow trade copiers.

What are my firm's exact rules?

Our policy matrix summarizes common firms' copying rules, each entry with a last-verified date and a link to the firm's own page — which is always the binding source. See the prop firm policy matrix.

If the copier causes a rule breach, who is responsible?

You are. Your firm's rules bind you as the trader, whatever tool placed the order. MirrorFill's risk tools — daily loss limits, max-contract clamps, block-lists, Flatten all — reduce the risk of a breach but do not remove your responsibility. See who is responsible for a breach.

Can identical fills across firms void payouts?

Some firms run anti-mimicry checks and can flag identical timing and sizing across accounts at different firms. Varied sizing and knowing each firm's policy reduce that risk. See copying across firms and anti-mimicry.

Can I copy during restricted news windows?

The copier mirrors whatever the leader does, so one trade inside a firm's restricted news window can breach every linked account at once. If any linked firm restricts news trading, stop the copier or sit out the window on the leader. See news windows and copying.

Can two of my accounts hedge each other?

Reverse copy makes it mechanically possible, but many firms restrict holding opposite positions across accounts — sometimes even across firms. Check the rules of every linked firm before enabling it. See hedging between accounts.

Journal & Weekly Review

How do trades get into the journal?

Copier fills mirror into journal trades automatically on every read — there is no import button to press. Trades from outside the copier come in by CSV. See how trades reach your journal.

Can I import a CSV?

Yes, under Journal → Manage Data. There is a generic template, and Tradovate exports are detected automatically. See importing trades from CSV.

What do the dashboard metrics mean?

The journal dashboard shows profit factor, win rate, day-win percentage, average win and loss, long/short split, cumulative P&L, drawdown, P&L by hour, weekday, and tag, and a monthly calendar. Each is defined in the dashboard metrics glossary.

What is the Weekly Review and when does it arrive?

A written review of your week's trading, available on Pro and above, generated Saturday around noon Chicago time for the week that just closed. The software computes every number; the model only writes the narrative, and it is an automated summary of your own data — never financial advice. See the Weekly Review explained.

Why is my review "stats only"?

Weeks with fewer than 10 closed trades ship as numbers-only — there is not enough data for a fair written narrative. Every figure is still there. See the Weekly Review explained.

How do I turn the Weekly Review e-mail on or off?

The weekly e-mail is optional, and every one carries a one-click unsubscribe link that works straight from your mail client. See the Weekly Review e-mail and unsubscribe.

Billing & account

How does the 7-day free trial work — is a card required?

Yes, a card is required at signup, and each account gets one trial ever. You are not charged until the 7 days end, and you can cancel before then. All plans are monthly; there is no annual plan. See the trial and checkout.

What counts toward my plan's account limit?

Total accounts: distinct leaders plus distinct enabled followers, across all groups. An account counts once no matter how many instruments it mirrors. Starter covers 5 (1 leader + 4 followers), Pro 25, Scale unlimited. See plans and account limits.

Does switching a follower Off free a slot?

Yes. A follower switched Off is remembered settings, not a working account, so it stops counting against your cap. See plans and account limits.

How do I upgrade, downgrade or cancel?

Through the Stripe Customer Portal, reached from Settings — card changes, plan changes, and cancellation all live there. A downgrade never deletes anything; it just blocks the next save that would exceed the smaller cap. See managing your subscription.

What happens when a payment fails?

You get a payment-failed e-mail and a 3-day grace period to update your card in the Customer Portal before access is affected. See payment failures and the grace period.

How do creator and promo codes work?

A code in your signup link is applied at Stripe checkout when we recognize it. An unknown code is simply ignored — checkout still proceeds, and you can use Stripe's own promotion field instead. A bad code never blocks a checkout. See creator and promo codes.

What is the refund policy?

Refunds are handled under the published policy — the trial exists so you can evaluate everything before the first charge. Read the refund policy.

How do I change my password or sign out everywhere?

Both live in Settings: change your password there, or use "sign out everywhere" to end every session at once. Sessions also expire after 14 days of inactivity. See account security.

Troubleshooting

Trades aren't copying — what do I check first?

In order: the engine is started (the command strip says copying is running), the connections on the Accounts page are green, the follower's Follow switch is On, the instrument is not on your block-list, and the account is not risk-locked. See the trades-not-copying checklist.

My connection test fails — could antivirus SSL scanning be the cause?

It can be. Some antivirus suites intercept secure connections ("SSL scanning"), which can make a valid login look like a network failure. Try adding an exception or pausing the interception, then test again. See connection failures and antivirus SSL.

Why is a row amber ("Catching up")?

The engine noticed the follower's position drifted from its target and is correcting it. Reconciliation runs only in a quiet window and skips accounts with a resting order, locked accounts, and paused rules — so amber usually clears on its own. See how drift gets fixed.

What does a rejected order mean?

The broker or firm refused the order — common causes are insufficient margin, a closed market, or a firm-side restriction. The alerts bell shows the broker's reject text so you can see the exact reason. See rejected orders and what they mean.

I'm rate-limited at sign-in — what now?

Sign-in throttles after repeated failed attempts. Wait briefly and try again, or use the password reset link if you are unsure of the password. See login problems and rate limits.
